The Monster Maker

Greetings fellow earthlings.

Today's post is about perhaps the greatest movie makeup artist of all time, his name is Rick Baker and he is the artist who did the makeup for American Werewolf In London, Men In Black, The Nutty Professor, Planet Of The Apes (2001), Michael Jackson's Thriller music video, and our favourite Jim Carrey film How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Rick is a master of monster makeup and is often nicknamed the Monster Maker. He is also going to be doing the makeup for the remake of the 1940's classic The Wolfman. We saw him at Comic con. It was really cool. He was doing a makeup demonstration. We love his creature makeup, especially the alien ones he did for Men In Black/Men In Black II, we are also fond of the makeup he did for American Werewolf In London especially the werewolf and also Griffin Dune's decomposition makeup (a lot of people STILL talk about that bit of flesh dangling from his neck). We also admire the makeup effects he did for Michael Jackson's Thriller music video- in particular the zombie dancers, zombie Michael and werecat Michael (some say that he turned into a werewolf in the video but we still say it's a werecat). We also love the work he did on the Nutty Professor with Eddie Murphy (which is one Chumsley's favourites). But we are extremely fond of the makeup work he did on The Grinch.

Also worth mentioning is the makeup he did for the Jack Nicholson werewolf movie Wolf. Jack Nicholson made a great werewolf. I did a photomanip of my brother as Jack Nicholson in that movie.

This is what Jim Carrey looked like when he played the title character in How The Grinch Stole Christmas. His yellow contact lenses proved to be so uncomfortable that he was unable to wear them at times during filming. This required that some shots of his eyes be colored in post-production.

We on the other hand would love a pair of those grinch contacts. They would go so nicely with the various other contact lenses we have in our shop and that includes the Chairman Drek ones. Chairman Drek is the villain from the first Ratchet and Clank ps2 game, he is voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson and he's an alien with illuminous blue eyes.
