John Hughes

On Thursday 6th August 2009,director John Hughes passed away- the cause of death: a heart attack.

John Hughes was the genius behind Planes, Trains and Automobiles (which I read is both Steve Martin and John Candy's favourite one they've been in), Uncle Buck and Sixteen Candles. His movies had characters we could ALL relate to in one way or another. Me and my brother were a bit like Ferris Bueller when we were in school- we would often ditch school on Thursdays to go off and have fun- especially when there was a sci fi convention. We quit school at the age of 17. John Hughes showed us what high school was really like and this was before Hannah Montana or High School Musical ever existed.

Me and my brother had a small cameo appearance in Weird Science. But it's a "blink and you'll miss it one" soon you'd have to freeze frame the dvd to spot us.

His movies were inspirational even today they have a impact on pop culture. In fact our children's show the Doizee Club and the movies based on it are heavily inspired by the works of this movie making genius. Our mascot Chumsley the werejohncandy is a composite of quite a few characters played by John Candy, in particular Del Griffith (Planes, Trains and Automobiles)and Buck Rusell (Uncle Buck). It also kind of helps that Chumsley has an uncle who concidentally is named Buck and is just like the title character from the movie. He was voiced by John Candy himself in the PSA's and animated shorts we did featuring him in the early 80's.

We wrote a song parody about him on Amiright once, but sadly when we got "banned" (which I think was unfair seeing as we didn't do anything wrong) All of our work got deleted including those cute songs we wrote about Chumsley (including the Chumsley and Friends theme song). The parody was called What's Your Fave John Hughes Movie and it was a parody of Don't You Forget About Me from The Breakfast Club. Most of the song parodies we did are included in our Greatest Hits cd- it's a 2 disc set. It has all the song parodies we have written and performed plus some megaremixes and some unreleased tracks such as a Chucky G Tribute song called the Mighty Chuck which is also a nod to an animated show we did called The League Of Parodists it features various Amiright Alumni as superheroes (Chucky G's the leader).

John Hughes is gone but not forgotten. We have recently made a Ferris Bueller cuddle buddy.
