This post is about a most underrated Disney villain, Professor Padriac Ratigan from The Great Mouse Detective. Ratigan was voiced by the horror movie legend Vincent Price (my friend Tyrone The Terrible does a great impersonation of him) and is one of the best over-the-top examples of a Disney villain ever. We first saw the Great Mouse Detective at the age of 13 and it's been one of our favourites ever since. Ratigan is a fun villain. He combines creepiness and hamminess. Ratigan is a rat but he does not like being refered to as one (so whatever you do, don't call him a rat under any circumstances) because it upsets him- and do you know what happens when someone upsets him? He rings a little bell, his extremely fat cat shows up and eats the poor sap who offended him. We love Ratigan. He's our second favourite Disney bad guy. There are so many reasons why we like him but we cannot list them all in one day. So here's to Ratigan, to Ratigan, one of a kind, the world's greatest criminal mind.
