My kind of comedy

When it comes to comedy movies I like retro comedy from the 70's, 80's, 90's as well as ones in the 00 era, among my favourite comedians are John Belushi, Chris Farley, John Candy, Richard Pryor, Rodney Dangerfield, Sam Kiniston, Andy Kaufman, George Carlin, Robin Williams and Jerry Seinfeld, as well as Dan Akyroyd, Eugene Levy, any and all members of the Hollywood frat pack, Johnny Carson, Jim Carrey and Eddie Murphy - we also love British comedians such as John Cleese, Rowan Atkinson (BlackAdder was one of the most clever shows on tv, not to mention so many memorable lines), Hugh Laurie (Yes, he's British) and Eddie Izzard.

Also I'm a proud Monty Python fan, i've seen Meaning Of Life, Life Of Brian and The Holy Grail - I find them all to be very entertaining and funny. The killer bunny scene and the two headed giant are my favourite parts of Monty Python and The Holy Grail, as for my favourite bit in Meaning Of Life i'd have to say it is the scene with Mr Creosote the exploding fat guy.


I also heavily enjoy the work of Jeff Dunham - his wacky puppet characters are extremely fun to watch, my favourites are Achmed, Walter, Bubba J, Peanut and Melvin.


I also love South Park and The Simpsons as well as Family Guy and Robot Chicken, i also am a huge fan of the series Celebrity Deathmatch.


I love good original comedies with heart and lots of good humour, but I do adore Jim Carrey movies especially Ace Ventura, Liar Liar, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Once Bitten, The Grinch, Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events, Yes Man, and Bruce Almighty - I also love his more serious films like The Cable Guy and The Number 23.



I also love dark comedies like Beetlejuice and Nothing But Trouble - which by the way is actually not as bad as the critics said it is - it actually is balls out funny. Dan Akyroyd directs it and also plays two roles in it - also starring in it are Chevy Chase , Demi Moore and John Candy who plays two characters in it as well.


Now i'm not much into political humour but I do really enjoy watching The Daily Show With John Stewart and The Colbert Report. I think Stephen is a good role model for anyone even if they're not from the USA.



I do like the Tonight Show and while I am sort of a fan of Leno's, I do find that some of his jokes aimed towards other celebrities can be a little offensive especially the ones he made about Michael Jackson (including that fake interview he did). And also I do think that late comedian Bill Hicks was right about Jay when he made fun of him in his Artistic Roll Call routine.


I also adore the Evil Dead trilogy - the first one was a horror, the second one was a horror comedy and the third one was a horror/comedy/action film. There are so many reasons why I love these movies but the one reason i love it so much is because of Bruce Campbell - I mean who doesn't love that guy? I love all the 3 Stooges homages in Army Of Darkness. Ash has got all the best oneliners in that movie. My favourite scenes including the scene with the mini Ashes, the skeleton arms scene and the creation of Evil Ash. Gotta love the dance that Evil Ash does when he's taunting the good Ash by singing.."Little goody two shoes, little goody two shoes."
 
 

Innocent MJ

The late Michael Jackson was a musical visionary, there is no one quite like him.




Of all of his achievements, I find Ghosts to be one of his best.



Stan Winston worked with Michael Jackson on the short film Ghosts which was a really amazing halloween themed video. MJ played 5 characters in the movie.





The makeup in Ghosts was so incredible it was mind blowing. Now you may not know this but the hefty, middle aged white guy with glassess is MJ - and no i'm not joking. That IS Michael in makeup as the "Mayor" character.



Some people could not tell it was him - in fact some people on youtube say the mayor looks like Roger Ebert the film critic. In fact, in a review of "Ghosts" on the site Agony Booth the reviewer refers to the Mayor as "Mayor Ebert" - a nod to the fact that the 1998 Godzilla movie in which the mayor of the city was named Mayor Ebert and looked a lot like the film critic Roger Ebert. I wonder if Roger Ebert knows about that one.



According to Ritchie Alonzo (the guy who created the Mayor makeup) in the August 2009 issue of Makeup Artist Magazine - Michael went out as the "Mayor" character.



I also enjoyed the message the video had. I am one of the many people out there who believes that MJ is innocent and not a pedophile.



I was also slightly offended by the jokes Jay Leno made about him during the 2005 trial era. The worst was a phony interview with MJ which is actually just footage from the Living With Michael Jackson special with Jay inserted in Martin Bashir's place. Not only did Jay make Michael look like a fool in that fake interview but he also butchered one of Michael's best songs - and i' m talking about Billie Jean. He gets the lyrics wrong - well gets the "Billie Jean is not my lover" part right but he gets the part after that confused, he sings..."He's just a guy." Everyone knows the titular person of the song Billie Jean is a female NOT a male - apparently Leno doesn't know the lyrics properly.



Therefore, Leno knows nothing about MJ. Just be glad he's not doing any MJ jokes now - it would be in bad taste if he did - as you must never speak ill of the dead.



Also the story behind the song Billie Jean oddly enough is that there was a woman who accused MJ of being the father of one of her twins.



MJ is, was, and always will be an inspiration to musicians everywhere no matter what the media says about him.

Those are all the dvd features. The dvd includes  never before seen musical numbers that weren't in the original version.   The bluray version also has these special features as well.

 In the film version of Leno the love song that plays in the background during the part where Jay and Mavis are having their romantic evening together is Take My Breath Away by Berlin.    This song is from the movie Top Gun and has been featured in commercials and tv shows including the trailer for Toy Story 3 that debuted last month (during the scene where Barbie meets Ken).

The reason we chose that song is because it is not only an awesome song but it is also powerful and a really lovely 80's song.     When we were picking a love song to use in that scene with Jay and Mavis we decided against using My Heart Will Go On from Titanic because these days it's been overdone -  and it's been played so many times it's become annoying.

Leno dvd

As many of you all know- our production of Leno was without a doubt one of the most sucessful shows we've ever done. The movie version was also pretty great. I think the most fun part of it was playing all those different characters as well as Jay. Of course both the stage and film versions were good. The Chintastic Extended 2-Disc Edition on Bluray and DVD has tons of bonus features including a clip of our appearance on the Tonight Show and some hillarious commentary done by me as Jay.

My portray of Jay won me several awards and Jay himself even praised my performance.


One time while we were filming a scene for the film version I actually had a little fun and I went around town in the Jay Leno makeup and costume pretending to be like the real Jay- no one could tell it was me- the makeup was just so well done and realistic.



Leno was a very fun production and the film version was also pretty fun to do.

WereLeno Alert

We've got some really horrible news for you,  it seems that a Wereleno has been released from the dark dimension by my arch nemesis/evil counterpart the diabolical Dr Madness.

If you see this particular WereLeno don't go near him.    Alert us or Chinstar immediantley.      Also the only thing that can stop a WereLeno is Bruce Campbell.

We would go after it ourselves but i'm afraid that it might result in me getting attacked and turning into one again.   Which I would NOT want to happen to me after the last time.

The last time I got turned into a WereLeno it was so horrible,  the transformations into one were always so painful, scary and traumatic.   Not to mention I was evil when I got turned into one -  had no control of my actions and most of the time it was like i was possessed.     Not to mention me and Chinstar became arch enemies because of this for a short while.  

Luckily due to the fact i'm half Canadian forest werejc now -   there's no chance of me ever turning over to the dark side of the chin again.    But unfortunately my brother is not so lucky -  so i hope that he does not end up becoming a wereleno - because i'd hate having to fight my own brother.

For those who are curious I still have that chin shaped mark on my shoulder from the time Jay Leno rammed me with his chin -  when I was an evil wereleno it used to glow to signify my transformation into one,  but now that i am not one anymore it doesn't glow -  but i still like to tell my friends stories about it though.

For the main part WereLenos are evil and as such often serve the role as antagonists in our various tv shows and movies as well as in some of our graphic novels.    The only acception is Sam "Chinstar" Leno's role on our show The Misadventures Of Doc M,   He plays the only good WereLeno and a superhero parody.    In halloween episodes he often is seen is dressed as the character Ash from the Evil Dead films and in one halloween episode actually fights off a horde of deadites.    One of which was a homage to Army Of Darkness.   My character briefly became an evil WereLeno in the nightmare episode where he enters the Nightmare Realm - a realm where your worst fears come alive - and my character's worst fear is being turned into an evil Wereleno.

Our transformation themed show Night Of Alterations which is similar to Tales From The Crypt,  The Twilight Zone,  and Tales From The Darkside  has several sagas one of which is the Wrath Of The WereLeno Saga,  in which all the episodes have a wereleno in them.  

Also in one episode of The Adventures Of Chinstar,  there is an evil WereLeno who tries to get his hands on a sacred book.

Smoke and mirrors

First of all we would like to say sorry for the delay,  the power went out 5 hours earlier today and it was a really scary experience.

Today's post is all about the special effects industry -  in particular the makeup and special fx departments.

Our favourite makeup and special fx artists are Tom Savini,  Rick Baker,  and the late Stan Winston.

 I have done the exact same thing with some of my disguises several times,   such as when I went as John Candy for halloween a couple of years ago - I was very convincing - I looked like the real thing (one person even walked to me and said that they loved me in Uncle Buck and Planes, Trains and Automobiles).   That's where my John Candy impersonation came in handy,   i've been practicing my impersonation of his voice for years and  I can do his laugh as well -  i first developed my JC impersonation on the comedy sketch show Comic Calamity.    I wore a special John Candy likeness makeup for the occasion (which looked exactly like the real JC)  which we also use for werejohncandy makeups -  the Chumsley and Cassie makeup appliances are now on display in the makeup and special effects area of our lab.

in Leno (2008)  I not only played Tonight Show host Jay Leno (both young Jay and present Jay) but I also played several of his old tonight show sketch characters.   I had a special Jay Leno likeness makeup for both the stage and film versions - complete with the famous chin.   Again it was so convincing that not many people could tell it was me - they thought it was the real Jay Leno.    One of the differences between the stage version and film version is that the stage version has two additional Jay characters Johnny Allegro and Bob Johnson.    You may recall a publicity stunt I did where I went out as "Jay" and interviewed people on the street like Jay does in the Jaywalking segment of his show. 

The "Leno" makeup appliance can be seen in the makeup and special effects area of our lab.    There's also a Bruce Campbell likeness one which is used for the Evil Dead stunt show that is seen in the masters of horror wing of our theme park/museum,  and for disney fans there are character likeness makeups we did of Gaston (Beauty And The Beast),  Kronk (Emperor's New Groove) and Buzz Lightyear (Toy Story).

New pictures

Here are some new photographs me and my brother have taken over the past week.

This first one is of a painting me, my brother and Heather worked on - it is titled Feelings and it is centered around ladybugs and emotions.    If you have a sharp eye,  you might recognise the one with the sleepy looking on its' face.

This is the Rotta the Huttlet backpack buddy from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars range of toys by Hasbro.

This one is of a bag of costume accessories and other items.   Also in the shot are a homemade Gremlins plushie of an original character my brother and i made up - her name is Matilda but she is nicknamed Killoala and a Jay Leno halloween mask which can be found on sites like brandsonsale.com.  We've got a real problem with pesky Conan supporters coming door-to-door to our place and handing out "I'm With Coco"  flyers and badges -  and if you've got the same problem than a Jay mask will be the perfect thing to scare them off.

And these are some of my dvds, games and cds.   Most of the ones you see there are Jim Carrey movies.

Facts

• My brother and I wrote the screenplay for Leno all in one week. We also wrote all of the songs.
  
• I played a total of 9 different characters in Leno including Jay (both young Jay and present Jay), Beyondo, Iron Jay, Mr Brain, Evil Jay, Billy Tuttle, Bob Johnson, and Johnny Allegro (the world's handsomest garbage man). While 4 of those ones appeared in both the stage and film versions, Johnny Allegro and Bob Johnson only appeared in the stage version.
  
• Doizee of the Doizee Club fame was first discovered in Spain.
  
• As of 2001, the Doizee Club is the most popular show for children of all ages. It won several awards and Doizee herself won herself a place in the tv hall of fame. It's only competition is a New Zealand kiddie show called Bumble which is about a bee.
  
• The makeup I wore to play Jay and his tonight show characters in the film version of Leno took 3 hours to apply. The makeup was courtesy of our resident makeup expert Dan McCloud. It was very realistic mind you, so realistic that no one could tell it was me they thought it was the real Jay.
  
• In addition to the original Jay Leno Playtime Friend there's also Beyondo, Iron Jay, Billy Tuttle and Mr Brain. There's also two halloween exclusives Vampire Jay and the Wereleno. The rarest one of these is the Friends Forever Jay Leno Playtime Friend which we gave Jay as a farewell present on his last term as tonight show host.
  
• Millitary Koalas is our most popular animated series and has about 5 seasons of episodes in all. Season 6 is now airing. The Millitary Koalas movie won several awards at the annual film festival.

Jay's final show

Well folks, Jay Leno's final tonight show episode is today. This is his last one before he surrenders the show to Conan "Daddy Long Legs" O Brian. But don't worry he's still staying on NBC, he's got his own upcoming show called the Jay Leno Show. I've been told it's going to have some of Jay's tonight show material in it. Let's wish Jay good luck with his new show on Monday.

Jay: A True Hero

Jay Leno will be leaving the Tonight Show next month and I for one am going to be very very sad and so is my brother. We are going to miss him so much. Jay's funny, charming and cool. We don't think the Tonight Show will ever be the same when Conan O Brian takes over. I hope NBC decides to keep Jay. It's going to be such sweet sorrow seeing him leave. He's a good friend of ours. Despite the numerous criticism people have been saying about him- he is a very nice guy. I had a blast playing him in Leno. It will be sad to see him go. There's no comic half as funny, perfect, he's a pure paragon. You can ask any Tom, Dick or Stanley and they'll tell you whose show they would rather be on. Jay's probably one of the only guys who has a swell cleft in his chin like Gaston (except for Bruce Campbell). Jay's our hero. Our good friend Sam Leno/Chinstar is a relative of his. Jay is the best, we love him. Everyone in my family loves him. If it wasn't for him our friend Chinstar wouldn't be the superhero he is today. Why, it was because of Jay that Chinstar got his powers. It happened in mid summer 2001, he was still known back then as reporter Sam Leno of our magazine The Weekly Scoop, he made an appearance on The Tonight Show one night, and he accidentally said something to offend Jay, Jay got mad and rammed him in the shoulder with his chin. Two days after that, Sam developed superpowers including some chin based ones and became the lantern jawed hero Chinstar. True story.

Jay may be leaving the show, but our cuddly wuddly pal Little Jay will be staying with us for a really long time. We're thinking of doing a second Little Jay toy sometime. This one will be the Wereleno version that roars and has light up eyes.

Chintastic Chinstar

We've got the inside scoop on our friend the mysterious lantern jawed crime fighter Chinstar.

• By day he is a mild mannered reporter for our weekly magazine, by night he is a lantern jawed superhero.





• His secret identity is Sam Leno.





• He is related to Jay Leno.





• His special power is that he is a Wereleno (see his picture above). Interestingly enough he is one of the few "heroic" members of this species. Most members of the Wereleno species tend to be evil. Although there have been some cases of werelenos being on both sides (Neutral).





• His star sign is Leo.





• He is a martial arts expert.





• He transforms into his super powered self by shouting "Chin-Up!"





• His favourite Disney character is Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story.





• He got his superpowers after being rammed by Jay Leno's chin on the tonight show.





• He possess a lantern jaw of justice.





• He can turn into his wereleno form anytime he wants. But he does change into this form mainly at night around 11:30 pm.





• He is the local hero of the town we live in. Everyone talks about how great he is.





• In our various animation, tv and film projects he always plays the lantern jawed superhero character.




• He's the only member of the cast besides me to play Gaston in a company production of Beauty And The Beast.

The Tonight Show

The Tonight Show has always been one of my favourite shows. Me and my bro have never missed an episode. Jay is truly one of the best comedians there is. He's one of the most underated comedians in the buisness but he's one of the nicest too. We know because we've met him and we've been on his show. I played him in the musical Leno and won a Tony award for it too. Jay and his famous Lantern Jaw Of Justice have been keeping us entertained at night since 1992. Hi, Nathan "Dr Music" Forester here. Back in summer 2007 me and my brother premiered our hit musical Leno on broadway. A musical autobiopic look into the life of Tonight Show host Jay Leno. I played the part of Jay Leno and his various characters from his tonight show sketches- It was a little rough getting through the makeup proccess but it was worth it. Here's a list of "tropes" asscioated with the production courtesy of our good friends at tvtropes (which is the best site ever):

• Cut Song (we originally had a song titled "You Don't Stand A Chance" it was supposed to be Letterman's villain song, but we decided to cut it out of the production, it's on the extended soundtrack though, also there a few lyrics cut out of Carnac's Mystic Melody)Crowd Song ("Jay", "Leno" and "We'll Miss You Johnny")

• The crowd song/I am song Leno is a satire of the Gaston song from Disney's Beauty And The Beast, I Am Iron Jay is a satire of Iron Man by Black Sabbath, Beyondo's I Am song is a satire of Holy Diver, Evil Jay's I am song/villain song is a satire of This Is Halloween, Billy Tuttle's is a satire of Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves. The motion picture version of this musical has "special thanks to Andria, ChuckyG, Red Ant, Guy, Annie Are You Okay, Jason and all the genius editors who've made Amright what it is today". In fact, Andria and quite a few other Amiright alumni appear in the big Crowd Song number "Jay". Also Annie Are You Okay's Nightmare Fuellerific song parody Leno was the inspiration for the character of Jay's evil twin Evil Jay, the song kind of creeped me out and it did give me nightmares but her version of Jay had enough darkness and dept to inspire the character of Jay's evil twin. We gave Jay's evil twin Evil Jay a vamprish quality and villainous Tim Curry-like charm and charisma. I wore basically the same makeup I wore to play Jay, but I had my face painted greyish, had red contact lenses and vampire teeth to make him look evil- the vampire teeth and red eyes were my brother's idea. Evil Jay's wardrobe consisted mainly of outfits that were black, blood red or purple. The special effects were done using my brother's sfx master machine (which makes extremely realistic special effects). We were originally going to make Johnny Carson a bad guy in this but it didn't work out so we made him one of the supporting characters instead. We made Helen Kushnic, David Letterman and the NBC Executives the villains of the piece. Dave originally had a villain song but we cut it out of the final product because it was too long. Our friend Sam Leno helped with the production. Me and my brother wrote and produced it, I starred in it as Jay the title character. Like my good friend Tyrone the terrible, when it comes to theatre productions i'm always cast as the bad guy. This marks as the second time i've played a non bad guy part in a production, the first was when I was Erik in my company's production of Phantom. I recently played Gaston in my company's production of beauty and the beast.
  
  Jay's song at the end Lead With Your Chin is a satire of True To Your Heart from Mulan and gets it's name from Jay's autobiography Leading With My Chin. This was inspired by a comment Agrimorfee said about me taking a page out of a book. He is one of the amiright alumni who make cameos during the big crowd song.
