Can You Believe That?

According to this article here, SNL performer Jon Lovitz beat the heck out of that loser Andy Dick after he said something insulting about the late Phil Hartman. I applaud him for that. Andy Dick totally deserved that.

As a long time fan of SNL (especially old school SNL with John Belushi, Dan Akyroyd, Jane Curtin, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray and Chevy Chase) , I love the work of the late great Phil Hartman (especially his voice work in The Simpsons). I cannot believe Andy Dick said such a nasty, repulsive thing about him. The death of Phil Hartman was one of the sadest celebrity deaths. Ironically, Phil Hartman was one of the victims of the Atuk curse. If you're wondering what the Atuk curse is i'll tell you. You see, there's this book called The Incomparable Atuk, it's a fish out of water story about an Eskimo who visits the big city. In the seventies, someone wrote a screenplay for an adaptation of the story- the first person in mind to play the role of the title character was John Belushi- he was in the process of reading it and rehearsing the role when he died- thus making him the first victim of this curse. Second victim was Sam Kinison- who almost got around to making it but on the day that they were going to film it, he freaked out and said that there was no way he was ever going to do it the way it was written, he locked himself in his trailer and later died in an explosive car accident. Third victim was John Candy, who had absolutely no idea that the script was cursed at the time, he was in the process of reading the script and then he died of a heart attack- it also struck again the same year when Michael O Donohue (one of the writers) died of cerebal hemmorage. The next victim after that was Chris Farley - who was about to accept it when he died at the same age and of the same cause as his idol John Belushi. He had shown it to his SNL colleague/pal Phil Hartman and encouraged him to have a co-starring part in it, unfortunately in 1998 Phil Hartman was shot by his own wife and he died. The curse has been mentioned numerous times on tv shows and documentaries. The script has been put up on Ebay for auction and half of the writers have had lived long happy lives and have had sucessful careers despite the script's infamy. It all it's' infamy, Atuk will never be made into a movie and the script is safely locked away in the vault. Hopefully no one in Hollywood will ever ever ever decide to make the movie. I would hate it if they DID make it into a movie and had someone like Jack Black or John Goodman as the title role, we love those guys. My brother and I would be very sad if the curse was to affect Jack Black or John Goodman. We love both those guys. John Goodman is one of our favourite actors. He's kind of like John Candy. We love all the films he's been in (well...except for Blues Brothers 2000, and that was because it sucked). I wonder if he's a nice guy in real life as well as in movies.

Phil Hartman provided the voice of the narrator for a few of the animated short films we did featuring Chumsley during the 80's. He also appeared in the Doizee's Fairy Tales pilot episode Beauty's Beast Friend (which first aired in 1994) as the main antagonist who was based on Gaston from Disney's film version of Beauty And The Beast.

This post is dedicated to the memory of the late Phil Hartman. Rest in peace Troy Mclure.

And also....up yours Andy Dick!
