Good ol Jay

We've been friends with him for a long long time. We've attended quite a lot of tonight show with Jay Leno episode tapings, there's this rather nice woman we met while waiting in line her name is Glozell- she's a huge Jay fan- she knows all there is to know about him. We've met Jay numerous times- he's a superb guy- knows a lot about cars. Sometimes we would be often seen making appearances in the Jaywalking segments, we're the only ones who answer Jay's trivia questions correctly, in case you had a hard time spotting us, my brother is the one wearing the t shirt with the picture of Jack Nicholson in The Shining on it, and I'm the one wearing the sunglassess and the shirt with a picture of the Little Jay cartoon character on it. We attended his first run as host of the tonight show as well as his last one and on that day we gave him a special present- a special Friends Forever Jay Leno Playtime Friend- the rarest one in our Jay Leno Playtime Friend range of cuddly electronic Jay toys. Jay gave me lots of praise for my portrayal of him in the production Leno- he liked it a lot- he liked both the film and stage versions. When we made an appearance on his show to promote the film version of Leno, we showed some clips from the film and I held up a still picture of me as him- Jay himself said the likeness was uncanny. And it's true the likeness was uncanny, I looked very convincing in the Jay makeup so convincing in fact that some people mistook me for the real Jay. No one could tell it was me. I had a little fun once while filming it, I went around town in the Jay makeup and costume pretending to be like the real Jay and I interviewed some people- it was a whole lot of fun. I'd have to say that my favourite part of producing and starring in Leno was that I got to play multiple parts.

List of parts I played in Leno:

  • Jay (both young Jay and present Jay) - no Time Shifted Actor trick here, I played both young Jay and present Jay.
  • Beyondo
  • Iron Jay
  • Mr Brain
  • Evil Jay
  • Billy Tuttle
  • Johnny Allegro (stage version only)

I liked all of the songs as well- they were all very well written and so fun to perform. I always thought that the Cool Ranch Doritos song was a really funny one and quite a good Rock Me Amadeus parody. Iron Jay's I Am Song was awesome because it was kind of a heavy metal type one as well as Beyondo's.

Top ten I really liked about it:

  1. Getting to play not only Jay but his old tonight show characters as well.
  2. The makeup. Very realistic. You couldn't even tell it was me.
  3. The music. The music was very very nice.
  4. The songs. The songs were a lot of fun. Again me and my brother wrote most of them with help from Chinstar and Tyrone The Terrible.
  5. The special effects. There's some pretty cool special effects in both the stage and film versions of Leno. I liked the floating head effect we used for Beyondo- the glowing eyes were very cool. The lasers, flames and other pyrotechnics were awesome. I liked the flying across the stage during the Iron Jay musical number- that was fun.
  6. The story. My brother and I first thought of the idea in early 2007, the story is quite a touching inspiration one- it's kind of like Jay's book Leading With My Chin- which is refered to as a title in the song Jay sings in the big finale titled Lead With Your Chin.
  7. The screenplay. Words cannot describe how amazing the screenplay was. My brother and I wrote that all in one week.
  8. The characters. The characters were a lot of fun especially the ones I got to play. Jay was a great role and I got a lot of critical acclaim for that part and won a Tony award, I looked very convincing as Jay- the makeup was so clever no one could tell it was me. All of Jay's tonight show sketch characters were really fun to play.
  9. The premiere party. We had this huge Leno premiere party at Chinstar's mansion the day the film version of Leno came out in theatres. It was great, lots of people showed up including Jay Leno himself. The food was fantastic and everything was amazing. There were several props from the movie on display. We also showed everyone our latest addition to the Jay Leno Playtime Friend range of toys, the Singalong Jay Playtime Friend which sings songs from the stage and film version of Leno.

And finally...

10. The production in general. Leno was such a fun production to do, we had a lot of fun making it. Both the stage and film version were a lot of fun to do. There's quite a lot of funny and facinating stories we like to tell people about the production including some behind the scenes trivia and some anecodotes. The production was so succesful both as a stage show and a film that it won several awards. Jay himself gave me lots of praise for my portrayal as him.
